Gemini CLI reads MCP servers from settings.json and supports remote Streamable HTTP servers with custom headers. Add AwardClaw and Gemini can search live award space, check dates and set trip watches from the terminal.

Set it up

1In AwardClaw (Pro+), open Agents, tap Connect an agent, pick this app and choose what it may do. Copy the key it shows.
2Put your key in an environment variable: export AWARDCLAW_KEY=ac_live_... (add it to your shell profile to keep it).
3Open ~/.gemini/settings.json (or .gemini/settings.json in a project) and add the block below.
4Start Gemini CLI and run /mcp to see awardclaw and its tools.

Gemini CLI replaces ${AWARDCLAW_KEY} with the environment variable when it starts, so the key stays out of the file.

Where does my key go?+

In an Authorization: Bearer header, so it never appears in a URL or a log line. You can create a separate key for each tool and revoke any of them on its own.

Why httpUrl and not url?+

In Gemini CLI, httpUrl selects the Streamable HTTP transport, which is what AwardClaw speaks. url is for older SSE servers.

Does it work with Gemini in the browser?+

This guide covers Gemini CLI. For a chat app on the web, Claude or ChatGPT have the simplest setup today.
