Award flight search in OpenAI Codex

Codex supports Streamable HTTP MCP servers with a bearer token read from an environment variable. Add AwardClaw and Codex can pull live award space into scripts, notebooks and trip tools.

Set it up

1In AwardClaw (Pro+), open Agents, tap Connect an agent, pick this app and choose what it may do. Copy the key it shows.
2Export your key: export AWARDCLAW_KEY=ac_live_... (add it to your shell profile).
3Run the command below, or add the same block to ~/.codex/config.toml.
4Start Codex and check that the awardclaw tools are listed.

Codex reads the token from AWARDCLAW_KEY at startup, so the key never sits in the config file.

search_drops

Read-only on award data. Codex never sees airline logins or points balances, and every date links to the program's own site to book.

One key per tool. Revoke any key in AwardClaw and that connection stops at once.

Codex questions

Where does my key go?+

In an Authorization: Bearer header, so it never appears in a URL or a log line. You can create a separate key for each tool and revoke any of them on its own.

Does this work in the Codex IDE extension?+

The IDE extension reads the same ~/.codex/config.toml, so AwardClaw shows up there too.

Can Codex cloud tasks use it?+

Cloud tasks run in their own environment. Use the REST API with the key stored as an environment secret if you need award data there.
